Hag Stones
West Sussex, 2022
This is the first series of works I have made since my return to the U.K. The landscape of West Sussex is sculptural, dominated by the huge hills and deep valleys of the South Downs. Rivers and roads carve sharp lines in the land. I’ve attended a series of lino-print studio sessions, reminding me of my printmaking days at college. I started to experiment with the prints, and they soon became spectacular surfaces to draw onto/into. The rocks and stones I’ve picked-up are distinctive in their variety of weird shapes. Their scarred and twisted forms turn into monumental landscapes as my drawing process develops – combining the micro and the macro.
